Welcome to our memory page for Doug Wilson.
Doug passed away peacefully at his home in Winchester with family by his side on 22 June 2022. A much loved husband to Doreen, father to Claire, Heather and Duncan, and grandfather to Aaron and Maisie. Also a brother, brother-in-law, father-in-law, uncle and (not forgetting) golfer.
Doug led a full life. Growing up he became a keen sportsman and was captain of many of the school teams. This continued into adult life regularly playing cricket, badminton, table tennis, tennis, horse riding to name a few. There wasn't a sport he couldn't turn his hand to and when he eventually took up golf he was hooked for life.
Doug worked hard and had a long successful career in IT software sales, eventually setting up and running the UK office for the USA Kodak company RSI before retiring. Having travelled around the world for work, he also enjoyed travelling for leisure extensively with his family, and then with Doreen into retirement. Why fly when you can drive? Doug loved to drive everywhere, including across Europe to France and Italy and in the USA.
He was an active man, rarely sitting down as there was always gardening to be done or something in the house to fix. When he did, it was either to watch sport or an episode of Midsommer Murders. He also enjoyed a good after dinner debate on politics or current affairs with his family, maybe with a Cuban cigar in hand.
We will miss our dad. A pragmatic man, down-to-earth, full of useful advice, always quietly in charge of everything. He worked hard to take care of us all and made sure we worked hard too. He wanted us to lead full lives too, encouraging all our interests and taking us to interesting places. He was also a quiet rebel, breaking the rules when no-one was (usually) looking.
Doug has now finished a successful round well under par and has retired happily to the bar at the 18th hole to celebrate the many birdies and eagles achieved on the greens.
In fond memory of a good friend of us both
